Corona virus / Covid-19 and Village Events

In order to comply with current health advice on social distancing, all events in the Village Hall have been suspended for the foreseeable future.

This includes regular events, such as Keep Fit Class, and specific, one-off events, such as the Village Meeting AGM, the Call My Bluff evening etc.

When the situation changes, there will be further updates on this site, and also on the Village Hall Facebook Page.

Carol Confusion

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the carol singing planned for Sunday 22nd December has been cancelled.

Spaunton villagers will be carol singing in Spaunton on Tuesday 17th December starting in the middle of the village at 6:30pm. Proceeds will go to the servicing of the Defibrilator in Spaunton

Anyone wishing to sing tomorrow night will find carol sheets to sing from in the village hall and will ultimately meet up with the Spaunton singers in the Blacksmiths around 7:30pm

The Most Important Vote of the Year - Are You Game?

We all know that the game industry is an important part of our local economy. One of the ‘problems’ with it is that not everything that is shot is used. Pete & Hils do everything that they can to help remedy this. Chef Ally and his team turn the pheasant & grouse that are shot locally into tasty, healthy and wholesome meals, as many of you will know from eating lunch, or attending Gourmet Game Nights, at the Blacksmith’s Arms.

NOW is your chance to VOTE for them in this year’s Eat Game Awards.

You can cast your vote by simply clicking here or else you can take yourself off to www.eatgameawards.co.uk

(Note - The Blacksmith’s Arms appears on page 2 of the voting section and you must then click-on through to page 11 to register your vote. It’s not a very good website, but don’t give-up because every vote counts.)

DO NOT DELAY - VOTE TODAY

Ladies who lunch

At the annual Lastingham Ladies Christmas Lunch, the conversation and wine flowed in equal measure (and if you believe that, you’ll believe anything…..).

Ally and the team produced another fantastic food offering and the part received the usual warm welcome from Pete & Hils. A big thank-you to everyone involved, and to Heather for her organisation.

A Touch of Blues

An enthusiastic crowd of ‘ageing rockers’ turned-up to the Village Hall on Saturday to enjoy an evening with local band “A Touch of Blues”. The programme was a mix of rock favourites, featuring some stunning lead guitar work from ‘The Stig’, and more traditional blues numbers, featuring the gravelly tones of our own blues maestro, Prof John.

The band very kindly played the gig in aid of the Village Hall funds and the evening raised an amazing £450 towards the upkeep of the hall and promotion of events for villagers. Everyone there had a great evening, and a huge vote of thanks must go to Julie & the organising committee and, of course, the band members themselves.

House! (I think.....)

Bingo Night in the village hall proved to be an hilarious and fun event. To be fair, the hilarity was partly down to the fact that some teams were drinking their prizes as they won them…..

The same reason also caused a number of false claims which, in turn, led to the awarding of the Wooden Spoon. Which team of inebriates won this accolade must remain shrouded in mystery - my lips are sealed……

Huge thanks to Heather for organising this fun event - ably supported by Emily, Harry, Toby & Greg.

To Absent Friends

In memory of Strick, everyone pitched-in to support events at the Blacksmith’s Arms. The disco and coffee morning, and all the associated prize draws and raffles, raised a huge amount of money - almost £2,500! This will be divided between MacMillan Cancer, York Cancer Research and St. Leonard’s Hospice.

Huge thanks to Pete & Hils at the Blacksmith’s, but also to everyone who rallied round, baked cakes, boogied, drank and ate their way to this tremendous total.

The Pop-up Cafe

The Darley Memorial Village Hall Lastingham

We had another successful Pop up Café week-end, despite the unsettled weather we had a steady flow of customers over the 3 days.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped with setting up, organising the rota, putting signs out, manning the hall, baking cakes and generally supporting us over the week end. We made an excess of £517.30 after expenses, which was a great result.

The only casualty was the Village Hall gazebo which did not survive the gusty winds of Saturday night and was found collapsed in a heap on top of the chairs and tables on Sunday morning!

We hope to repeat the Pop up Café on the August Bank Holiday, in the meantime don’t forget our weekly Keep Fit on Wednesdays at 5.30pm and watch the notice board for any future events.
